Stewart’s True Nature

Stewart has been a part of this family for 10 years. I remember the first time I saw him like it was yesterday. I was going on my daily walk and he was in the middle of the street. He was a tiny thing. He almost got hit by a car and I ran out there to grab him.

Stewie is closest to the kids. He is their best friend. He runs to them when they cry and they always throw their arms around him and show him some love. He sleeps next to them when it’s nap time. When the kids come downstairs in the morning, the first thing they do is look for him and fill up his food bowl.

Now that he’s getting up there in age, we have been looking into different types of food for him. We’ve also been trying to get some exercise going, so he doesn’t become unhealthy. One of the foods that we looked up was Purina Pro Plan. Pro Plan is high in protein and actually uses real meat, which is what we are looking for. He needs energy, so he can play with the kids.

We go out for daily walks and Stewie follows us around the neighborhood. He still thinks he’s a young kitten, taking on bigger cats and hopping into fences (he sometimes misses, but he wouldn’t tell you that). When we first started him on the Pro Plan diet, we noticed a surge in energy. He honestly thinks he’s young again. Seeing him like that, it’s totally worth it. Thanks to nutritious cat food, I think he’s be around for a while longer.

Many thanks to Purina Pro Plan for sponsoring today’s story and encouraging me to help my cat live the best life possible!

Plans Plans Plans

If you’ve read my blog, you know I’m obsessed with Smoothie King smoothies. They are extremely delicious and healthy! My favorite thing about them is adding veggies that you aren’t really taste in them. Especially for the kids.

I’ve been working out a lot more. Planning things in the future. I want to get healthy for the kids. I went and bought a membership for the Y. I also went and bought a double jogging stroller – those things weigh a ton! Then I add 80 lb. of kids to it, so it’s a workout just trying to walk around with it.

My goal is to lose about 20 lb. and just tone up. I would love to be where I was, before kids. What a scary thought. I also don’t mind the thought of being healthy, just in case the next one shall arrive. It’s been a little hectic, to wake up one day and just realize how not happy you are with yourself. So I’ve been trying to change that.

It’s been a bit hard to eat as healthy as possible. But I know, if I just work out, without getting my eating habits on track, I’m not going to get to where I want to be in the amount of time I want to take. So I’ve been looking into alternative ways to help me get on track. Smoothie King came out with some veggie smoothies. It helps to sneak more veggies into my diet. They introduced this new Veggie Avocado Pineapple smoothie that I’m dying to try. They also have: Apple Kiwi Kale, Berry Carrot Dream and Carrot Kale Dream. All of the flavors are pretty good. The berry one is my favorite.

Check out all they have to offer! You can also sign up to receive a coupon for a $2.99 20-oz smoothie.

Brilliant Minds

I considered myself to be the luckiest person on the earth. I have two beautiful children that I get to be at home with every day. They are crazy, they are wild, and they are mine. They are also brilliant. They come up with some of the crazy ideas and I love hearing how everything makes perfect sense to them.

It’s hard coming up with ideas to keep them going every day. We have arts and crafts time, English time, math time, and science time – every single day. I like working on their minds and helping them become amazing people. We go on outings, to the zoo, the park, the aquarium. Anything that will be fun and gets them to learn something new in the process.

One idea that I haven’t quite tried yet, has been day camp. The oldest is getting to the point where she needs to be out more and socialize, so I think that putting her in a daytime summer camp would help out a lot. Galileo Innovations Camps have so many programs that I think Birdie would love. They have: Camp Galileo, Galileo Summer Quest, and @ The Tech. They have an amazing approach and they follow 5 key mindsets: Visionary, Collaborative, Determined, Courageous and Reflective.

They have some great programs that really help build your child’s confidence and help them to work independently to figure things out at their speed. If you want to get your kids out and about, learning, the innovative camps at Galileo are perfect for this!

If you sign up now, you are able to lock into major Galileo savings this summer! You can get $40 off a week by using the code BEBOLD. Check it out when you get a chance!

Yogurt Pops!

Have you ever checked out Sprouts Farmers Market? It’s one of my favorite stores. I stop by whenever I’m in the neighborhood. They’re even building one closer to us! I’m extremely excited about that.

We stop by every once in awhile, but right now Sprouts is having a great sale! You can ave up to $60 in store right now. They are also giving away a $2000 gift card, so make sure you enter that sweepstakes! I wouldn’t mind having an extra $2000 to spend at Sprouts.

Sprouts has a great sale going on that included Mountain High Yogurt, which is one of my favorite brands of yogurt. So we decided that with this heat wave, we needed to make yogurt pops. It’s been in the high 80s, low 90s recently — way different than the 60s and 70s it was two weeks ago.

Birdie is the biggest help in the kitchen. She was on the ball and wanted to help every step of the way. We also grabbed some of Anne’s Fruit Snacks (in Bunny Berry Patch) to them. So delicious!

Sprouts is hosting a Get and Give Back sweepstakes! Five lucky winners will be selected to receive a $2,000 Sprouts gift card and be able to nominate a local food bank in their community to receive a $2,000 monetary donation.

So make sure you save some money and enter to win!

Hide the Veggies!

My kids used to eat everything. They used to not be picky eaters. They used to be the best eaters in the whole wide world. Their grandparents would brag about how they would eat whatever was put in front of them.

Until last month. *cue tears*

Birdie now refuses to eat vegetables. Any of them. All of them. I don’t know why. They used to be her favorite thing to eat. Now I have to bribe her in some way, just to eat two peas. It makes me so sad. Tot isn’t quite there yet, but he’s starting to throw green items because Birdie causes such a stink.

We are huge on smoothies though. We frequent our local Smoothie King and their latest and greatest are smoothies with VEGETABLES. I know that’s not exactly new, but, get this… The kids LOVE them.

They have:

  • Veggie Avocado Pineapple
  • Apple Kiwi Kale
  • Berry Carrot Dream
  • Carrot Kale Dream

They sound delicious, don’t they? We frequent enough to be a part of their loyalty club/app — you should check it out. You’ll get your first smoothie for $2.99 – which is a great deal.

They also have an Earth Day (4/22) sweepstakes going on. Tag your Earth Day service photos on Twitter or Instagram (@smoothieking) to be entered to win one of four $25 Smoothie King gift cards. It starts on 4/19 and they will announce winners on the 25th. Join in! We are.

How I Got Here

My parents have always been extremely big on reading. I remember as a child, getting read to every single night. My bedtime story was the most important part of the day to me. I also remember the first time I read an entire book to my dad. Just all the proudness radiating off of him.

We were also big on singing every single time we were in the car, whenever we did anything in the home, just all the time. We listened to Motown everything. My parents were really big on the oldies — so that’s all I knew. They were very interactive/hands on with me. My mom was amazing, she stayed at home and helped me with everything. My dad would show up at my school and do all field trips and projects with me.

I previously wrote about First 5 California and how I was using their tools to help with the growth of my little ones. They know how important reading is to me and it’s showing in them. They are reading constantly or want to be read to. They love books! We take trips to the book store and the library constantly. It is so important for their growth to be read, sung and spoken to in their infancy and toddlerhood. I’m sure you’ve seen the statistics. The majority of their brain is developed in their first 3 years of life!

Make sure you check out the First 5 California activity page! There are so many fun things to do with your little one. There are tons of activities for newborns, toddlers and preschoolers. There are book downloads, coloring pages, recipes – they have so much to offer! Check it out when you get a chance. Make sure you talk, sing, read with your little one!

What are some activities that your parents did with you to get you where you are today?

Summer Time!

Have you been making summer plans yet? Summer time is almost here. I never realized how far in advance you need to start making these plans. There are so many different summer camps out there. I figured that it’s time for Birdie to quite possibly check one of them out. She loves being around other people and she loved to learn!

Have you ever heard of Camp Galileo? They’re a science camp that has 4 different themes: space explorers, Galileo Olympics, national park adventure, and Galileo Makers: Toys. There is so much to choose from. They each have great possibilities. I was also afraid that Birdie might be a bit too young for a camp, but Camp Galileo ranges from pre-K to 5th grade! They have various age groups: nebulas (pre-K to kindergarten), stars (first and second grade), and supernovas (third to fifth grade). So she would be able to fit right in!

If you register before February 29th, you can get in on the Early Bird Savings! You get a $40 discount and an additional $25 per week! Use code 2016BOLD

We are huge on projects. We love working on projects every day. I try to make sure that we are learning something and having fun with it. Birdie’s latest thing is play dough.

She loves to make food, that’s her all time favorite thing to make. We’ve also been making characters and I think planets are next.
Don’t forget to sign up for Camp Galileo before February 29th to take advantage of the Early Bird Savings. You’ll save $40 and an additional $25 per week! If you sign up after February 29th, you’ll still save $40. Use code 2016BOLD

Smoothie King Meal Replacements

I try really hard every year with New Year’s resolutions. I tend to fail. Every single one of them. So I try really hard not to make any New Year’s resolution, so I can attempt to better myself in some way. We will just call them un-resolutions. The resolutions have a better chance of being completed that way. I want to lose weight, walk more, exercise more, get more tone… Anything, you know, to get rid of the excess baby weight… Just like a good chunk of the people out there.

I try to go on play dates constantly, to get the kids out of the house and socialize with other kids. It’s good for them. I dress and feed them, get them there on time, and forget about myself. Completely. Half the time, I don’t even know what I’m wearing and I’m lucky if I get food in my system at all. Normally, by 4 o’clock, I’m running on 3 cups of coffee. On the way to a playdate, I realized I was early and could actually grab a snack. I decided to stop by Smoothie King and check out their Change A Meal Challenge.

Smoothie King has meal replacement smoothies. They have 20 different types and they are all so different. It helps with all kinds of craving! Chocolate? There’s a smoothie for that! Peanut butter? There’s a smoothie for that! Fruit? There’s a smoothie for that! I love all of the options that there are.

It’s an extremely satisfying smoothie. Did it keep me full until my *only* meal of the day? Yes, it did! It also gave me enough energy to chase after the kids at the park. It was nice.

Smoothie King is also having a competition! Share your goal and you’ll be enter to win prizes. Post some #changeameal selfies and get entered to win every single time! Sign up for their newsletter and get a $2.99 coupon for one of their meal replacement smoothies.

Break The Silence!

Can you believe that there are more people in their 20s that deal with bladder leakage, than people in their 80s? Yes! It’s a young adult issue that a lot of people aren’t aware of! Don’t suffer in silence. The average age of someone dealing with bladder leakage is 52! That’s pretty young. It’s pretty common, so don’t be ashamed. There are 51 million women out there that deal with this on a daily basis. There are many products that are out there to help.

Underwear has been created to help those with bladder leakage. Depend has decided to come out ands help with #underawareness. No, they aren’t diapers. They’re low rise undies that don’t have any bulk to them at all! They are incredibly discreet.

Newborn Must-Haves!

Whenever one of my friends finds out they are pregnant, they always turn to me and ask what are the must haves for a newborn baby. The lists you find online are so long and you don’t really need all of those items. So I decided to come up with what items I would put on a registry.

  1. Rock n Play – These things are a lifesaver. I’m a huge fan of cosleeping (not necessarily bed sharing, but at least having the baby sleep near you). I like the Rock n Play. They are small – don’t take up too much room. They also have it so that the baby is sleeping slightly upright to reduce choking. The sides are breathable. Some play music, some vibrate. They’re a lot of fun. They’re easy to fold up and you can move them from room to room.
  2. Breast Pump – These are helpful. I like the electric ones — sometimes I get more from a manual pump. There are so many different brands. Picking a brand is up to you though.
  3. Pack n Play – Sometimes it’s used more for a storage, but I loved having one in my living room. I was able to change the little one’s diaper on there. Saved my back, that’s for sure. Once he started getting older, he was able to play in there. He also took a few naps in there.
  4. Boppy Pillow – Loved these for almost everything. The little one took naps on it. It helped with holding him up. It also helped with tummy time. These things are amazing.
  5. Baby Carrier – There are so many different types out there. I love them all! I’ve tried so many and so many have been through here. But to be able to hold and snuggle your little one, but still have your two hands to do other things is a lifesaver. You need one.

I also got the chance to check out the BabyNes by Gerber.

It helps supplements your little one’s diet. It creates the perfect bottle. It’s wifi enabled so it sends info to your MyBabyNes app. You can see all the details on the dashboard of the app. It’s safe. It’s made to stop contamination between bottles.

What else would you add to your baby registry?
